CORNERSTONE 2020 -
Cornerstone 2020 represents the vision of Louisville and
Jefferson County, brought into focus by hundreds of citizens
whose labor over seven years (from 1993-2000) produced a plan

CUP – Conditional Use
Permit: A documented authorization to use a house (property)
within Old Louisville, specifically the TNZD, for a purpose
other than Single Family Dwelling. A CUP may be obtained by
approval through two committees: LANDMARKS & BOZA
HISTORIC LANDMARKS
COMMISSION- Responsible for preservation of the Historic
District – Landmarks members are available to assist the
homeowner in making changes that meet landmarks requirements. Go

IPL - INSPECTIONS, PERMITS
AND LICENSES - The Department of Inspections, Permits and
Licenses (IPL) issues permits and performs inspections for
property owners, business owners, and contractors who own
property, build new construction or do renovation on older

LOJIC - The
Louisville/Jefferson County Information Consortium (LOJIC)
represents a multi-agency effort to build and maintain a
comprehensive Geographic Information System (GIS) to serve all
of Louisville Metro, Jefferson County, Kentucky. Present LOJIC
participants include the Louisville Metro Government, Louisville
and Jefferson County Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD), the
Property Valuation Administrator (PVA) and the Louisville Water
Company. All participants are sharing the cost and effort
involved in the full development and successful implementation
of LOJIC. LOJIC currently has a staff of 12 employees. Go to:

Chamber of Commerce - Comprised of companies in the Old
Louisville area to represent the business and professional

OLNC – Old Louisville
Neighborhood Council is a team of representatives from Old
Louisville Neighborhood Associations and other interested
parties, led by elected officers. This group leads discussions
of various issues related to Old Louisville. The group meets
monthly at OLIC, typically (but not always) on the 4th Tuesday
of the month. Email them at

OLCDC -The Old
Louisville Community Development Corporation has been
established to help develop and support businesses in the Old
Louisville area. They developed the Oak Street Charrette. Go to:

PARC - Park Authorit of
River City - Provides public parking to serve existing needs and
future demands. PARC coordinates with the Transit Authority of
River City (TARC) programs that will improve circulation
throughout Louisville. They oversee the Parking Permit Zoning

PIC – Property
Improvement Committee: A committee of elected officers and
representatives from the various Old Louisville Neighborhood
Associations who promote property improvements in Old
Louisville. This committee meets monthly at OLIC, typically (but
not always)on the 2nd Thursday of the month.

Single Family Dwelling -
A home used as a primary residence for one family. The home may
have up to three families legally, with one apartment on the
third floor (if the home has is a third floor) , and one in a
carriage house (if there is a carriage house on the property).
No more than 3 families may reside in a Single Family Dwelling.
TNZD – Traditional
Neighborhood Zoning District. The area marked roughly by the
river to the north, 9th Street / 6th Street to the west, Uof L
to South and I - 65 to East where occupants voted, in 1983, to
invoke a traditional neighborhood zone. Within this zone, all
residences are to be used for single family dwellings except
those which a CUP. Any building grandfathered with rights to
operate as other than a single family dwelling, left unoccupied
for a period of 12 months or longer, or otherwise converted from
the grandfathered purpose, shall revert to the current zoning-

ZALU – Zoning and Land
Use Committee: A committee of elected officers and residents
(basically whoever shows up for the meetings is considered a
part of the committee). This committee makes recommendations to
governing bodies regarding use permits (CUPs) being considered &
other zoning issues. This committee also hears plans for new
businesses in the area, proposed changes to existing buildings
and architectural and landscape changes the Old Louisville and
surrounding areas. Kevin McFadden is the current president. This
committee meets monthly at OLIC, typically (but not always) on
the first Thursday of the month.
